The paint is not messy; it easily comes off fingertips after the artist is finished. Both girls (aged 7 & 9) and the boy (age
loved this art activity.
There are lots of illustrations to follow but the kids can easily come up with their own creations. We used this during a long car trip over the holidays.

In order to get the most out of this book, you have to be able to read. Don’t get this book for a pre-reader.
The inkpads have dark ink, and the instructions for how to do the work are largely self-explanatory and very creative. I also like how the stamp pad is on the *side* of the book and the pages lie flat – not all activity books take this simple step.
The only real caveat I have is that it would have been better to include a small sponge or dark colored cloth for the artists to wipe their inky fingers whenever they want to switch colors. Otherwise they wipe on their clothes, no matter WHAT you say, and then what do you do? If I were to buy this for a friend, I’d definitely include a small, decorative sponge with it.
